Admit You Were Wrong

Why won't the Obama administration amdit they were wrong on Honduras? Is it pride? Senator DeMint wrote an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday regarding his recent trip to Honduras. I am no foreign policy expert but I fail to see how Obama got it wrong in the first place. I think a good rule of thumb is that when you come down on the same side of an issue as Hugo Chavez you should presume you are wrong and reanalyze. For those of you unfamiliar with the story, the Honduran constiution has a one term limit for its president. The president of the country (and close ally of Chavez and the Castro brothers) attempted to change the constitution so that he could extend his presidency. As a result, the highest court in the country along with the military, peacefully removed him from office. Now, they are having elections later this year to determine the next president. The Obama administration immediately sided with the ousted president (and Hugo Chavez) and cut ties with the current Honduran government. Why? Many suspect that the Obama administration now realizes their mistake but are afraid to come clean. That is unfortunate. We should be applauding any country that is willing to stand up against tyranny. Instead, the Obama administration continues to punish the Honduran people by cutting off diplomatic ties and aid. This apparent stubborness sounds a lot like the criticisms of GWB.

Excellent Video Regarding Illinois Charter Schools

I came across this video on Republican candidate for Illinois Governor Dan Proft's website. It makes you wonder why there is a cap on Charter Schools. Hmm, I wonder if it has anything to do with powerful teacher's unions?

The greatest band to stalk the face of the Earth is reuniting for a few limited shows, one in Chicago!

See Touch and Go.

If that it is not enough, Bob Weston (and Steve Albini) will be remastering their 4 best albums. This is especially good news for fans of the Head/Pure album/EP. With any luck, this temporary reunion will encourage some new music.

A Random Thought...

I live in Chicago. Every week I see a beat up old pick up truck trolling through the alleys in my neighborhood looking for (I assume) scrap metal and other items. I see him pick up old bed frames, old appliances and other various items that others have thrown out. It occurred to me that even though this guy is operating for his own profit he is doing a public service. I am making the logical leap that he is selling these items for money. Do you see where I am going with this? This gentlemen by his own efforts (without government mandate) is doing a more efficient job for the sake of recycling and helping the environment than the City could. And the best part about it is that he is not a City employee being paid with our tax dollars. The question every politician or legislator should ask themselves when they are faced with a problem is, how do we create an incentive for individuals to remedy this problem themselves. Governments should strive to harness the power of individual incentives to achieve results. The City should tackle the lack-of- recycling-problem here in Chicago with the idea of how can we make this profitable for people. What can we do to encourage people to want to recycle?

Should We Be Suprised?

"I don't believe that was the intent of the program."

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Obama Machine and Its Followers Declare War on Plumber From Ohio

Forget the Clinton Machine folks, welcome to the Obama machine. Good grief. Because Obama made a potentially game-changing gaffe in front of a camera, everybody is going after "Joe the Plumber." Why? The clip did not become popular because of what Joe said but because of what Obama said. I can guarantee you that "spread the wealth" is not a slogan we will be seeing on any podiums Obama will be speaking from. So what do we have now? Does Obama try and explain HIS gaffe? Nope. The Obama machine and its fans are now digging up dirt and trying to discredit a citizen who merely asked a question along a rope line. Checking his plumbing license, his tax records? Remind me to never challenge the "Dear Leader" in front of a camera. Welcome to the age of Obama comrades.
